and gentle, but in fact, it confounds the terrifying act by interjecting the human body as an object and palsying the person. In this project, I want to discuss the violent ways we interject and control the bodies, through the lens of contemporary consumer culture and postmodern theories. The process of violently hacking into the human body seems to be undetectable and gentle, but in fact, it confounds the terrifying act by interjecting as an object and palsying the target, causing us to change and shape the body based on our self-planning. On the other hand, we are also mired in the question of how we should control our bodies: Does the so-called self-planning depend on our free will or is it implanted by the consumerist ideology? Without a doubt, the more we can control and change the restrictions of our body, the less sure we are about what constitutes our body and about what are its natural characteristics. In the meantime, in the consumerist society, we face the new dilemma of our bodies: on the one hand, the contemporary society liberates the constrictions and concealments of our bodies; on the other hand, the consumer culture's legitimation and generalization of beauty standards unavoidably cause the oppression of and violence towards the body. To some extent, the history of the human body is a history of metaphors for social power relations. However, as the subject spends efforts maintaining the fictional character, the multi-dimensional and complicated person turns into a flat image, enslaved by the virtual account. Deleting social media accounts: Besides the account holders erasing their online identities by themselves, under the political context, online identities might passively become “erased” for “certain reasons” because of the blurry and unspoken rules, leaving only a grey profile picture. It is generally produced by unconscious oppression or external force and passively presented on the body. This group of works tries to explore how fragile individuals are forced to produce “bruise” stamps under the effect of external forces like the social environment in the contemporary context, and how their gradually anxious spirits actively pursue a balance with the outside world in this process. My works try to present such a state: Unconsciously, the subject is invaded by an unnoticed object, so that the produced bruise gradually becomes an absurd and independent existence of the parent body. In this process, a bruise may become a monument of resistance and be gradually forgotten. The pressure of modern society is complicated and tough. How does it affect soft, juicy, and flexible individuals? And how do individuals respond?
